Purdue CS celebrates Women's History Month
Client: Purdue Department of Computer Science
Role: Developer
On February 23, I was contacted by Emily Kinsell, the department's communications specialist. Computer Science was going to celebrate their students, faculty and alumni for Women's History Month in March.
They needed a custom-designed homepage and story pages to feature each person. Emily had an idea of what she wanted and how much content she expected to create. She also sent me a mockup and a reference website, which gave me a clearer picture of what I needed to build. The project deadline was February 28th.
I had a short meeting with her to discuss the project in more detail. The homepage needed to have two sections: a hero area with headings and a story area with cards for each person. The story pages had a relatively simple layout, so I focused more on the homepage. The reference website enabled me to build and test the pages quickly. I also loaded a different version of the hero image on smaller screens.
I finished the project on time and gave Emily instructions on how to edit the homepage and create the story pages. The stories were shared on various social media channels throughout March, with the highest number of views coming from Twitter (25%), LinkedIn (69%) and Instagram (90%).
